Country style kitchens with their cosy look and rustic charm are going nowhere and are set to rise in popularity this year. The free-standing units, shelving, and warm woods and natural textures are not only well suited to period houses, but to modern spaces too!

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your home, so choosing a kitchen that suits the whole family is essential.  The country theme is the one design that enthuses the feeling of homeliness and where you can spend time cooking and socialising with friends and family.

There are many different classic country looks which work very well, incorporating butcher block work tops, large wooden tables, larder cupboards and hanging pot racks. 

Nevertheless, a country style kitchen doesn't have to look perfect, they tend to look homelier if you mix it up a little – you may want one or two cabinets in a different colour or have mis-matching handles. Adding glass doors to your cabinets so you can display your collections of plates, bowls etc, all adds to the appeal and gives it a carefree feel.

When it comes to choosing a worktop for your country kitchen, stone or wood are the popular choices.  If opting for stone, avoid anything too shiny, and go for a matte finish. Wooden worktops are probably the most common surface but bear in mind that it does need a little bit of maintenance (oil it on a regular basis to keep it looking in tip top condition).
